Caracas, 24 Ago. AVN .- The president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, underscored this Wednesday that the tragedy of the Libyan people have just started and he denied that it will all end with the fell of Muammar Al Gaddafi, in reference to the entrance of troops of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Tripoli.

Venezuela’s Chávez Condemns NATO “Massacre” in Tripoli, Warns of Opposition Destabilisation Plans

At the end of a meeting in the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas, with the Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov, Chavez explained that the United States and European powers are attacking Libya for its oil and that"s the reason of NATO attacks against Libyan people.

Said actions have left a death toll, so far, of at least 3,000 civilians murdered and thousands wounded, since the beginning of the invasion on March 31. Just this last weekend, over 1,600 were massacred just in Tripoli.

“They have destroyed a country and keep destroying it. The drama in Libya does not end overthrowing the Government of Muammar Al Gaddafi. It has just started (…) The entrance of these hordes to Tripoli was done by massacring civil population, including entire neighborhoods and urbanizations. That is to say, the empire [the United States] and the NATO, tired of their failures, launched their final madness: massacre,” Chavez stressed.

He questioned that the massacre is taking place before the eyes of the entire world and stressed that nobody can justify this aggression “that is not just against Libya, but the world.”

“This is dog fighting, a new strategy imposed by the Yankee empire to create internal fights in a country and then they come in to destroy it and take over the country. That is the operation in Libya, the destruction of a country,” he stressed.

Likewise, Chavez regretted the role played by the right-wing media, which joined the campaign of lies aimed at hiding the real situation in Libya.

Moreover, the Venezuelan President highlighted the strategy used by armed groups financed by the NATO, preventing the exit of the international press from the Rixos Hotel, so they could not broadcast the events in the streets during the invasion.

Those 37 journalists were finally able to escape in a Red Cross caravan after being harassed for six days by the armed groups supporting the foreign intervention of their country.

Venezuela"s embassy in Libya attacked

Chavez informed that pro-colonialist groups attacked the embassy of Venezuela to Libya and demanded respect for the life and integrity of Venezuelan staff.

He added that said action were very similar to the attitude of the Venezuelan far right during the two-days coup in 2002 against the embassy of Cuba in the country.

Third round of chemotherapy could start this week

Regarding his health condition, Chavez informed that the third round of chemotherapy could begin this week, preventively.

“All these are just preventive measures, I am in one piece (…) I could stand here for three of four hours answering as many questions you want, the only thing is that I am at a different rhythm as an effect of the chemotherapy,” said Chavez to the group of journalists gathered outside the seat of Government.

Chavez said that he is working intensely, but under medical control.

Agreements with Russia for social development

With respect to the meeting held this Wednesday with the Russian Foreign Minister, Chavez highlighted that the agreements that have been signed with Russia will contribute with the social development of the country.

Among the areas discussed in the meeting are: oil, energy, natural gas, financial cooperation, Russian-Venezuelan bank, scientific cooperation, technical cooperation , military, security and defense.

Finally Chavez said that new themes emerged during the meeting this Wednesday that will be discussed later and informed that he will evaluate the possibility to travel to Russia early next year to answer the invitation made by president Dmitri Medvedev.
